The Rum River Bandits of Cambridge will open the 2012 amateur baseball playoffs as the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Minny League. The Bandits travel to beautiful Brennan Field in Hinckley on Saturday, July 28 to take on Nowthen at 4 p.m. in the opener.
The winner will face top-seed Princeton at 1 p.m. on July 29 back at Hinckley, while the loser plays in the 7 p.m. elimination game Sunday night. The EML playoffs continue at high seed sites the rest of the way on Aug. 1, 3, 4 and 5. The top two teams advance to the Region 1C tourney at Hinckley Aug. 9-12.
• Rum River won one of three games this past week, an 8-2 effort at Quamba July 20. Kevin Auth improved to 3-2 by holding the Cubs to 2 runs over 8 innings, striking out 6. Auth and Mike Koplitz both had 3 hits in the victory, with 2 hits each supplied by Josh Coleman and Eric Koplitz.
On July 18, Mora worked past the Bandits 6-1. Tim Koplitz had a double and a walk in the loss.
Rum River closed out the regular season with a 10-3 loss at Hinckley. Dan Schoess ripped 3 hits and T. Koplitz added 2 base hits for the Bandits.
