Barbara was born Jan. 23, 1946, in Willmar, Minn., the daughter of Robert and Phyllis (Robertson) Allen. She grew up in Spicer and attended New London – Spicer Schools, graduating in 1964.
On Nov. 2, 1963, she was united in marriage to Jim Peterson in Spicer. Following their marriage, they lived in several communities before settling in Cambridge in the late 1970s. Barbara worked as a secretary for Cambridge Public Schools for 28 years before retiring in 2010.
On April 28, 2001 she was united in marriage to Kenneth West in Cambridge. The couple lived in Cambridge until 2011. Upon retirement, they moved to Spicer.
She was baptized in the Methodist faith in 1946 and confirmed at Hope Presbyterian Church where she was a member and had sung in the choir. While living in Cambridge, she was a member of Cambridge and St. Francis United Methodist Church. Barbara also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are her husband, Ken of Spicer; mother, Phyllis Allen of Spicer; children, Michael Peterson of Willmar; Jill (and Paul) Blake of Cambridge; Troy (and Kristen) West of Lake Elmo; Thomas (and Tami) West of Ramsey; Laura (and Jon Larson) Leet of Isanti; eight grandchildren, Carra and Alisha Peterson, Allison, Thomas and Jeremy Blake, Hunter, Carter and Sydney West. Also surviving are her siblings, William (and Nancy) Allen, Suzanne Allen and David (and Laurie) Allen all of Spicer and Elizabeth (and Jerry Orta) Allen of Alamo, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Allen.
Her funeral will be 10 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Hope Presbyterian Church, rural Spicer. Burial will be in Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
