Help us feed the hungry. It’s time again for ECM Publishers, Inc. and the Isanti County News’ annual food shelf drive.
This year’s motto selected by ECM’s Community Affairs Council is ‘happiness is …. a full tummy!’ All of our ECM newspapers are participating in a Community Food Shelf Drive that runs through July 20 and we need the community’s help.
Our local food shelves will receive extra incentives through ECM Publishers in the form of matching dollars or additional dollars if our office is able to raise the most food and monetary donations, or our office has the largest percentage growth compared to last year.
All of the donated food and monetary donations will be given to our local food shelves. All year long, we have a food donation box in the front of our office at 234 S. Main St. in Cambridge for food donation items.
Otherwise, feel free to bring your food and monetary donations to Kids’ Day at the Isanti County Fair on Friday, July 20, beginning at 8:30 a.m. For every food item or $1 donation, you will receive an extra raffle ticket for the prize drawings. For example, if you bring in 10 food items and $10, you will receive 20 extra raffle tickets. There are great prizes again this year at Kids’ Day that includes gift certificates for local restaurants, bikes, Wild Mountain tickets, toys and more.
Since 2009, our offices in Cambridge, Forest Lake and North Branch have collected 8,058 pounds of food for the local food shelves in our communities thanks to the generosity of our communities. Last year, the three offices collected 2,815 pounds of food and we are hoping to exceed that amount this year.
As an ECM company, 42,552 pounds of food was collected in 2009, 46,669 pounds in 2010 and 61,600 pounds in 2011. Together, we all are making a difference in the fight against hunger.
Clean out your cupboards and open your wallets. Give what you can. Summer is often a forgotten time of year for food shelves, but families continue to need our help.
