Cambridge Legion clinches No. 1 seed for playoffs

On July 9, the Cambridge American Legion baseball squad held down St. Francis for a 2-0 victory. Jake Johnson earned a complete-game win on the mound for Post #290, allowing just 3 hits while notching 10 strikeouts.

Cambridge broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the fifth when Mitch Renstrom and Cody Auren both doubled. In the sixth, Matt Ziebarth reached on a fielder’s choice after Luke McCracken singled. Ziebarth later scored the insurance run on Johnson’s ground ball to second.

With this win, Cambridge Clinches the league title and the No. 1 seed going into NorthEnd League playoffs. Cambridge has one regular season games remaining (at Milaca July 12, 6 p.m.). Earning the top seed gives Post 290 a first; the team will begin the playoff run on Tuesday, July 17 in Princeton (8 p.m.).
