A 5-year-old boy drowned in a lake just west of Rush City on Tuesday evening, according to Sgt. J. Wessel of the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office by press release.
The Siefert family from Rush City were visiting friends and family on Round Lake where their son, Matthew Siefert, wanted to go swimming. Family members told the boy he needed a life jacket. A short time later, they were not able to find him and began a search, Wessel reported.
At around 7:16 p.m., Siefert was located in the lake at the end of the dock in about 12-14 feet of water. His life jacket was found on the dock. Wessel noted it is believed he went down to the dock to get his life jacket when he fell in the water.
When the first deputy arrived on the scene, a family member and friend were performing CPR on the boy at the end of the dock. Personnel from Lakes Region EMS, Braham Fire and North Air Care then took over.
Medical personnel pronounced the boy dead at the scene.
