Harriet Helaine Reinhart Johnson

Harriet Helaine Reinhart Johnson, of Cambridge, formerly of Braham, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2012 at GracePointe Crossing West Gables of Cambridge.  She was 89 years old.

Harriet was born on September 1, 1922 in Stanchfield Township to parents Herbert and Myrtle (Anderson) Gray.  She attended country school and later graduated from Braham High School in 1941 where she played the Cornet and sang in the school choir.  Harriet’s year book quote said, “She puts all her worries in a pocket—with a hole in it.”  As a young woman, Harriet took the train to Chicago and stayed with family while working as a retail clerk for several years.  She returned to Minnesota and in 1946 she was united in marriage to Roger Reinhart at the Cambridge Lutheran Church.  Together the couple lived on the family farm, milking cows, raising sheep, pigs, and chickens.  To this union three sons were born; Harold, Norman, and Richard.  After Roger’s death in 1958, Harriet worked as a Baker and Cook for various places around Cambridge, spending numerous years working at the Cambridge State Hospital.  In November of 1963, Harriet was united in marriage to Curtis Johnson at the Cambridge Lutheran Church.  Together the couple had a son, Herbert.   After Harriet retired, she volunteered much of her time with the Foster Grandparent programs in both the Cambridge and Braham schools.  In 1984, Harriet became a resident at Braham’s Park Manor.  In 2005, due to declining health, Harriet moved to GracePointe Crossing in Cambridge where she lived out her final years.

Harriet was an active member at the Cambridge Lutheran Church, and later the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church.  She was a proud member of her Homemakers Club, “The BorderBells” for many years.  Harriet supported and volunteered for the Cambridge Boy Scout Troop # 417 for many years.  She enjoyed craft projects, sewing, knitting, pressing flowers, and scrapbooking.  Harriet loved traveling; taking several cruises, plus trips to Alaska, California, Florida, and all around Minnesota.  Family was very important to Harriet, and every year she would organize the family reunion.  She will be dearly missed.

Harriet is preceded in death by her parents; husband Roger; and grandson Josh.

She is survived by her sons, Harold (Char) Reinhart of Cambridge, Norm (Julie) Reinhart of Cambridge, Rick (Sue) Reinhart of Cook, and Herb (Yvonne) Johnson of Harris; grandchildren, Nathan (Catrina), Roger (Holly), and Jeremie (Sarah); great grandchildren, Hunter, Racie, and Otto; as well as many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 (11 a.m.) at the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Rich Chronis officiating.  Music provided by Barb Seaton and Ruth Grundyson. Internment will be in the Cambridge Lutheran Cemetery (2 p.m.).  Arrangements are with the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home of Braham.  Condolences may be posted at www.aifuneralhome.com
