Redbirds take first hit in Metro Minny

On June 22, Isanti defeated St. Francis 5-4, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

BJ Samuelson drove in the winning runs and had 3 RBI’s for the game. Brian Schultz drove in the other two runs. Joe Ramberg pitched the first 7 innings, striking out 10 batters.  Dallas Nelson pitched the last two innings and picked up his fifth win of the season.

On June 24, Isanti lost a Metro Minny League heart-breaker to Blaine, 5-4. The Redbirds went ahead 1-0 in the first inning; Blaine came back with two runs in the third inning and one in the fourth to go ahead 3-1.

Isanti scored three runs in the fifth inning to take back the lead at 4-3.  Blaine scored two runs (with two outs) in the bottom of the eighth to take back the lead for good.  Nelson pitched the first 5 innings, Matt Duong pitched the next 2.6 innings, and Adam West pitched to the last batter.  Matt Duong had 2 RBI’s, with Jake Maros and Nick Johnson each collecting 2 hits.

It doesn’t get any easier, this week since the Redbirds take on five-time Metro Minny defending champ Coon Rapids in Isanti on Wednesday, the Lyons Pub in Isanti June 29 (7:30 p.m.) and then head to Forest Lake on Sunday (7 p.m.).
