Two new champs at Cambridge Softball Classic

The Cambridge–Isanti Area Softball Association crowned two new champions during the 17th Annual Cambridge Softball Classic hosted June 8-10. Sneaky Pete’s of Isanti upended Brothers Cutters out of South St. Paul in the Men’s Championship game.

Led by Kevin and Chad Kostecka, along with Jamie Thorson, Sneaky Pete’s played stellar defense through the weekend, allowing only 16 runs with a 5-0 tournament record. Brad Flilkeid of Sneaky Pete’s won the MVP honors, while Brothers Cutters of South St. Paul took home the “team sportsmanship award.”

Bill’s Well Drilling placed 3rd. Patriot Lanes beat the Big Guys 13-7 to take home the Consolation bracket trophy.

• In the Women’s division, the Brainerd Explosion had to beat the Hanson Accounting squad from the Chisago County League twice in the championship, and they pulled it off with timely hitting and great defense. Local squads Misfits and Jailbirds played some good softball as well, as the Jailbirds upended eventual-champion Explosion 4-3 on Saturday afternoon, and the Misfits, who finished 3rd, beat the Explosion 23-21 Saturday night. The Brainerd Explosion went 5-3 during the tournament as Stephanie Lambrecht was named MVP. Hanson Accounting took home the “team sportsmanship award.”
