TOWN TEAM BASEBALL: Isanti opened its inaugural season in the Metro Minny League with three victories over its last stretch of games.
On May 19, the Redbirds defeated host East Bethel 5-1. Joe Ramberg got the complete-game victory, striking out 9 Bandits in the MML win. Packy Lind went 3-for-5 with a double and 2 RBI. B.J. Samuelson scored 2 runs while reaching on 2 walks and a single.
Isanti kept rolling with an 11-0 win over host Anoka May 20. This time it was Dallas Nelson going the distance, scattering 5 hits while posting 9 Ks over his nine innings. Collecting 2 hits each on offense were Lind (2BI), Eric Rysdam (2BI), Tyler Schaff (2BI) and Kyle Johnson.
The Redbirds improved to 8-1 overall this season by defeating Hamel in the May 25 “league homer opener” hosted at Isanti May 25. With staff ace Wade Reichmann sidelined with an elbow injry, Ramberg stepped up again with a nine-inning gem, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 11 Hawks. Racking up 2 hits each were Schaff (2BI), Ramberg, Jake Maros and Matt Duong (BI).
• This weekend, June 1-3, Isanti travels to the Sartell-St. Stephen’s “Omann Insurance Invitational” filled with familiar teams from recent Class C State tourneys. The Redbirds open against Winsted 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, with their next game either at 2 or 5 p.m.
Isanti’s next home game is Wednesday, June 6 vs. East Bethel (7:30 p.m.).

Bandits beat Bandits
In their last action May 22, the Rum River Bandits defeated the East Bethel Bandits 5-3 in non-league action. Rum River was led by Josh Coleman on the mound who threw a nine-inning beauty by allowing just 5 hits while striking out 9. Tyler Kornstedt paced the ofense with a 3-for-5 night, driving in 2 runs. Coleman added 2 hits, and Mike Koplitz delivered an RBI.
The Bandits have three road games on tap: May 30 at Nowthen, June 1 at Quamba (7:30 p.m.) and June 5 at Chisago Lakes (7:30 p.m.).
