Rangers end C-I Softball’s season

After sticking close for four-plus innings, Cambridge-Isanti Softball had its season close with a 9-12 record when top-seed and 2nd-ranked Forest Lake prevailed 10-0 in the May 25 Section 7AAA quarterfinals.

Forest Lake opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with 2-run single by cleanup hitter and catcher Jennifer Zidar.

Down 3-0 In the fourth inning, Bluejackets Erica Epsen and Katie McCann ripped back-to-back singles and advanced to second and third, but the clutch hit wasn’t found.  C-I’s only other hit was a long double by Kendall Sandberg in the top of the fifth inning. Forest Lake ended the game in the bottom of the sixth by bunting the bases full and then scoring on Bluejacket infield errors.

Jessica Golden started for C-I and went 4 2/3 innings, giving up 5 runs (3 earned).  Ronni Risch pitched the final inning.

The Rangers play No. 4 seed Duluth East, and No. 2 Duluth Denfeld takes on No. 3 St. Francis when the 7AAA final four double-elimination tourney opens May 30 back at Forest Lake.
