Warrior Softball 2nd at CAL ball tournament
The Cambridge Christian Softball squad traveled to Farmington for the first-ever CAL Finals tourney hosted by Christian Life on Saturday, May 19. The Warriors went 1-1 there.
Tourney notes from Coach Kim Aleckson: “We opened the tournament with a 19-4 win over Minnesota Transitions. It was an extremely windy day and Kellie Pedersen was on the mound. She did an excellent job concentrating on each batter. The wind gusts were 30 mph, but she pitched extremely well despite the weather. She had 5 strikeouts and went 2-for-4 at bat. Mikayla Lecceardone was strong at bat and consistently got on base with a 4-for-4 game.”
“The second game we went against Christian Life for the third time this season. It is always difficult to go against a team three times. We lost 10-11 in the seventh. It was a close game throughout. Annie KinCannon pitched a good game and came up against some good hitting in the third inning. We struggled to get the out. That inning ended up being our demise. Kristin Bergman was strong at the plate and went 4-for-4. Kim Walburg went 2-for-4. Kellie, Caitlin Walburg and Kim all laid down bunts to advance and score runners as we battled to regain the lead. We batttled back and tied the game 10-10 at the top of the seventh, but couldn’t hold them. The Hawks’ leadoff batter singled, and the No. 3 batter came through with a hit to end the game.
“It was a good game, and we learned a lot in the process.”
The Warriors closed the season with an 11-5 overall record.
