Bomber Baseball seeded No. 1 in 5A East

Coming off wins in its last two games, Braham is seeded No. 1 for the Section 5A East tournament which gets underway this week.

Braham (12-4) will open with a home game on Friday, May 25 (5 p.m.), taking on the May 24 winner between No. 8 Onamia (3-13) and East Central (0-14). A victory will send the Bombers to a 5 p.m. subsection semifinal game on May 29 in Pierz against either No. 4 Ogilvie (7-8) or No. 5 Pillager (6-11).

More playoff games in the 5A East are No. 2 Isle (9-7) vs. No. 7 Rush City (3-13), and No. 3 Hinckley-Finlayson (10-8) vs. No. 6 Royalton (7-12). The subsection finals will be May 31 (7 p.m.) back in Pierz.

In the 5A West, the top four seeds are Browerville (17-2), Kerkhoven-Murdock (13-3), St. John’s Prep (12-6) and Upsala-Swanville (12-8). The Section 5A final four tournament will be hosted at Faber Field in St. Cloud June 4, 5 and 7.

• On May 17, the Bombers paid back an earlier loss to Hinckley-Finlayson by hammering the Jaguars 17-3 at home. Casey Grell went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI and 3 runs. Nick Hammond added 3 hits and 3 RBI, and Tyler Vaughan stroked 2 doubles and finished with 3 RBI. Adding RBI hits were Sam Stigen, Cory Ambrose, Jamin Storlie and Alex Sutton. Hammond got the win by striking out 5 over 5 innings, allowing just 5 hits.

The Bombers closed the regular season by sweeping Rush City with a 13-1 night-game victory May 22.
