CIHS grad crowned Miss Minnesota Coed

Shannon Pulcher, a 2011 CIHS graduate, is currently a master designer at Regency Beauty Institute in Blaine.

She placed top five in modeling, volunteering and academics, and also won best interview suit and was voted best personality by all her competitors.

“I like this pageant because it doesn’t look on the beauty side of things, which I like because I don’t feel I should have to lose weight or alter how I look just to win a pageant,” Pulcher said. “We can just show up and lay down the line, and they choose based on personality.”

She said they look for the all-American girl, judging on evening gown, interview and on-stage introduction. When she was crowned, Pulcher said she was overwhelmed.

“It was a moment where I was scared and then it was almost relief and overwhelming excitedness,” she said. “I was crying on stage and thanking my judges. I don’t remember hearing anything else.”

This wasn’t Pulcher’s first time competing in a pageant, either. She’s been competing since she was 12, and she holds the titles of Miss Teen Isanti County 2007 and Miss American Rose 2006.

Right now, she lives in Blaine while she studies cosmetology. Ultimately, she wants to do hair and makeup in pageants.

As Miss Minnesota Coed, she will go to events, representing herself and the pageant. As a smaller pageant, part of her role is promoting the pageant.

“I most look forward to going to events,” Pulcher said. “I’m looking forward to getting out there and meeting new people.”

Her first appearance as Miss Minnesota Coed was at the Cambridge-Isanti High School prom on May 5 as guest Master of Ceremonies.

She’s looking forward to participating in a walk for Crohn’s disease with one of the pageant judges, and later she’ll join a team on a walk for breast cancer.

“I want to thank my mom and grandma for supporting me and getting me to where I am today,” Pulcher said. “I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them.”

Pulcher will represent Minnesota at the 2012 National Miss American Coed Pageant at Walt Disney World the week of Thanksgiving. She will be competing with other state winners for the title of Miss American Coed.
