THURSDAY SPORTS: Cambridge-Isanti Softball earned a much-needed Mississippi 8 victory after downing visiting Buffalo 5-1 May 3. Ronnie Risch tossed a solid game off the Rubber for the Bluejackets, getting big defensive plays behind her from Kendall Sandberg at 3B, Amanda Hanson at 1B and Taylor Bowker at SS.
Erica Epsen got C-I on the board in the bottom of the fourth by stroking a run-scoring triple to right-center. Leah Pointing followed with a double/drop to right to plate Epsen, then Risch helped her cause by putting the ball in play to force an error at first which allowed Ponting to make it 3-1.
Katie McCann came through with a 2-RBI single in the fifth to up the Jackets’ lead to 5-1. Bowker’s diving stop of a grounder up the middle killed a Bison rally in the sixth.

C-I Boys Track posts win at Waconia
The Bluejacket Boys Track & Field team enjoyed a fine all-around day while winning the Waconia Invite with 208 points– 67 more than runner-up Marshall. Jordan and Forrest Kalk finished 1st-2nd in both the 300 Hurdles and the High Jump. Patrick Jones won the Pole Vault, with more 1st places racked up by J. Kalk in the Triple Jump and Devin Mathews in the Long Jump. Placing 2nd for C-I were Adam Muehlhauser in the Shot Put, Jeremy Ham in the Discus, Aaron Kordiak in the 400 and Trevor Galligan in the 800.
• The Jacket Girls finished just 4 points out of 1st place to Marshall at the Waconia as both the 4×200 and 4×800 relays ran to 1st place. Adelle Nelson cleared a career-best 10-0 to win the Pole Vault, with Anna Nelson just back in 2nd at 9-06. Emily Santiago-Holboy won the Shot Put, and Allison Krueger was 3rd in the Discus.
Erica Young put up solid points with a 2nd in the Long Jump (16-01) and 3rd in the 200. Bree Erickson was 2nd in the 1600 (5:55) and Paige Muehlhauser added a 3rd in the 400.
C-I Baseball 3, Buffalo 1
Clayton Jennissen went 3-for-3 with a key RBI when the host Bluejackets swept the season series with Buffalo May 3. Jake Johnson struck out 10 over 6 innings, with Trent Chromy tossing the seventh inning for the save.

The Bluejackets upped their Mississippi 8 record to 3-2 by defeating the host Royals May 3.
C-I Boys Golf 4th at Peeble Creek
Jared Knutson shot a career-low 75 to lead the Bluejackets to a 4th-place finish in an M-8 meet held at Pebble Creek GC in Becker. Reggie Martin came in at 80, and Matt Swanson shot an 81 for the Jackets.
