Cambridge-Isanti boys golf placed 2nd out to Section 7AAA-partner Grand Rapids at the 11-team Grand Slam hosted April 27-28 by the Thunderhawks. Matt Swanson shot rounds of 78 and 80 to place 5th, and Nate Cox came in 9th with solid 83 and 78 rounds.
More C-I individual scores from the Grand Slam: Jared Knutson 80-85; Austin Galligan 86-87; Jonah Poppen 86-89; and Reggie Martin 84-94.
A pleasant April 30 greeted golfers for the annual Purple Hawk Invite where the Bluejackets finished 5th with a 323 total. Rogers won the meet with a 300, and Grand Rapids was just back at 304.
Swanson continued his fine stretch of play with a 38 on the front and a 2-under 34 on the back, placing 3rd with a 72 behind Rogers’ Corey Muenzhuber (69) and Jordan Ryakal (71).
“Matt had less than 10-foot eagle putts on both No. 14 and No. 18 and left himself with tap-in birdies. He was hitting huge drives all day, reaching par-4 Nos. 5 and 8 off the tee,” said C-I Coach Mike Hennen.
Also shooting for C-I were Poppen (82), Galligan (84), Knutson (85), Cox (86) and Martin (86).
C-I Girls 4th at Becker
The Bluejacket girls totaled a 379 round at Pebble Creek GC to place 4th at the April 26 Mississippi 8 meet behind 1st-place Becker (343). Leah Schoenecker (91), Anna Sunderman (career-low 93), Emily Sunderman (96), Alyssa Rapp (99), Megan Hallstrom (101) and Megan Koester (107) filled the card.
• On April 30, the C-I girls battled the quick greens at Buffalo Ridges while slipping to 5th with a 198 in the M-8 meet won by host Buffalo (181). Schoenecker (47), E. Sunderman (48) and Rapps (50) paced the team.
