Russell A. Wendorff, 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 15, 2012, after a battle with cancer, at his home in McAllen Texas, with his family by his side. He is sadly missed by family and friends.
Russ was born May 17, 1940 to Russell M. Wendorff and Frieda E. Wendorff (Krause) in McGrath, Minn. Russ attended school in McGrath, and Aitkin until moving to Cambridge in 1956 where he graduated high school.
Russ worked at Cambridge State School & Hospital where he met and married Phyllis (Dutton) Wendorff on May 31, 1960. Together they had four girls. Russ enjoyed softball, camping, gardening, hunting, traveling and fishing.
Russ retired from Krause/Anderson Construction in 2002 after 30 years. Russ and Phyllis spent several years on the road visiting all 50 states. Russ was a kind, gentle man who touched the hearts of many.
Russ is survived by wife Phyllis, daughters Melody (Dan) Vos, Dawn (Bruce) Paul, and Melissa (Jeff) Korpal, sister Lois (Leroy) Hischer, brother Martin (Virginia) Krause, brothers-in-law Elmer (Anni) Dutton Jr., Virgil (Anne) Dutton, George (Bonnie) Dutton, David (Pat) Dutton, Larry (Carol) Dutton, sisters-in-law Shirley (David) Morell and Mary Lynn (Duane) Johnson. Seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Russ was reunited with his daughter Brenda Bee, mother Frieda, father Russell and grandson Derek who preceded him in death.
A memorial service and burial will be held at Spring Lake Lutheran, North Branch, Minn. Date to be announced.
