Zachary Kosel, an 8th grader at Cambridge Middle School, along with his Geography Teacher, Matt Braaten, attended the Minnesota National Geography Bee competition held at St. Cloud State University on March 30. Zachary, via a 70-question written test, qualified to compete in the competition. Students qualify to take the written test by winning their school geography bee. The top 100 scores on the written test are then invited to compete at the state level.
Zachary competed against 101 other students during the preliminary round. After answering all 8 of the preliminary questions correct, he advanced to a tiebreaker with 14 other students who had perfect scores. After going through tiebreaker questions, he earned a spot among the 10 finalists and finished the day by placing 9th in the state of Minnesota.
