Isanti resident dies in March 31 crash in northwestern Minnesota

Dale J. Buzzell, 65, of Isanti, died when his semi trailer collided with a train on Saturday, March 31, around 3:30 a.m., in Red Lake County, in northwestern Minnesota.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Buzzell was driving a 2003 semi trailer northbound on Hwy. 59, south of Plummer, when he collided with a train travelling across Hwy. 59. Buzzell was pronounced dead at the scene. Plummer is located approximately 20 miles southeast of Thief River Falls.

At the time of the collision, a fire occurred, and the city of Plummer was temporarily evacuated due to the hazardous materials on the train.

Assisting Thief Rivers Falls State Patrol at the scene were the Plummer Fire Department, Oklee Fire Department and Ambulance, Red Lake County Sheriff’s Department and hazardous material teams from Detroit Lakes and Moorehead.
