The Community Center in Isanti will soon have a fresh look outside.
Eagle Scout Preston Holland received approval from the Isanti City Council at the meeting Tuesday, April 3 to place new landscaping at the Community Center as part of an Eagle Scout project.
“I’ll be placing new rocks, taking out the old trees and putting in new shrubs and flowers and another tree,” Holland said.
The project is the last requirement he needs to earn the rank of Eagle, the highest in the Boy Scouts. He’ll have help to complete the work Saturday, May 19 by other members of the Isanti Boy Scout Troop 523.
No city funds will be used for this project. He plans to add a new trash can estimated at $180, as well as plants, rocks and other materials for $880.
The plants and shrubs Holland listed in the plan include a hydrangea tree, Korean lilac tree, Weigela, Potentilla and blue and pink hydrangeas.
Wakeboard could be open by this summer
Vision Wake Park, the cable wakeboarding park planned for Bluebird Park in Isanti will likely be up and running this summer.
The Isanti City Council approved the site plan and building appearance to construct the park at the meeting Tuesday.
“By tomorrow we’ll be ready to start construction,” Vision Wake Parks representative Jake LaFerriere said. “The construction phase will take about two weeks to get the pond dug, and maybe an extra week to get the system up and running and tested.”

In other action, the council:
- Approved an amendment to the city code enforcement policy so that code violations can be enforced not only from complaint-driven requests as the policy previously read, but also enables staff to follow up on violations through inspection.
- Approved an event request from Dan Collison to hold a car show every Wednesday in June, July and August from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lake State Federal Credit Union parking lot.
