Cambridge-Isanti track opens with high placers at Mankato indoor

The Cambridge-Isanti track & field teams got in a good workout March 31  at the U of M-Mankato Indoor Meet. The Bluejacket boys placed 2nd to a strong Fairmont squad, while the C-I girls finished 3rd behind Fairmont and United South Central among the five teams competing.

The C-I teams kick into the outdoor season by hosting their True Team Meet on Thursday, April 5.

In the field events at Mankato, the Bluejacket boys showed excellent depth by placing at least three entrants in all but one event. Jordan Kalk starred by winning the triple and high jumps. Clinton Treichel placed 1st and Darren DeBaere was 3rd in the shot put. Patrick Jones was 3rd in the pole vault, and Devin Matthews led the C-I long jumpers with a 4th place.

In running events, Trevor Galligan won the 800, and Aaron Kordiak sprinted to a win in the 55 dash. J. Kalk placed 2nd in both the 55 high and intermediate hurdles. James Edstrom led the distance guys with a 2nd in the 1600.

In the wheelchair division, Jackson Larson placed 1st in the shotput and 1600. “The wheelchair division is in its second year as a part of  MSHSL track & field. Jackson is C-I’s first athlete competing in the division, and he is doing a great job representing our school,” stated Coach Kent Viesselman.

• The Jacket girls were also strong in field events at Mankato, highlighted by Adele Nelson, Anna Nelson and Morgan Smith sweeping the top three spots in the pole vault. Kylie Baas placed 2nd in the high jump, Emily Santiago-Holboy was 2nd in the shotput, and Carlynn Galeazzi was 2nd in the long jump. Lily Porta added a 3rd in the triple jump.

Erica Young was 1st in the 200 and was on the winning 4×100 relay along with Porta, Galeazzi and Melyssa Varsoke.

Braham hosts indoor meet

Also on Saturday, the Braham track & field teams hosted an indoor meet at Foley’s fieldhouse where both Bomber teams placed 6th. In the girls’ 1600 race, Rachel Eskuri placed 2nd and Jessica Westman took 3rd. Westman added a 3rd in the 800, and Julia Lingren placed 3rd in both the 55 dash and 200.

Dillon Arispe led the Braham boys with a 3rd in the 200 and 4th in the 800. Marshall Sward added a 4th in the 200 and 5th in the 55 dash. The Hinckley boys and Mille Lacs girls won the GRC-preview meet.

The Bombers next get outside for the Rush City Invite on Tuesday, April 10.
