He was born Sept. 21, 1952 in Minneapolis to Thomas and Mary (Wrobleski) Soltys. Jim grew up in Northeast Minneapolis where he attended Holy Cross Grade School. He went on to attend St. John’s Prep School in Collegeville and also completed four years at St. John’s University. After college, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 1975 and was stationed in Texas and Germany. He was honorably discharged in September 1978
On Aug. 7, 1976 Jim was united in marriage to Grace Linder at Christ The King Catholic Church in Cambridge. They lived a short time in Ft. Hood, Texas and Germany until Jim’s discharge from the Army. Jim and Grace settled in Northeast Minneapolis and would raise their three daughters. Jim was working for the United States Postal Service where he had worked 33 years, much of that time spent in downtown Minneapolis. More recently Jim and Grace moved to rural Isanti and made their home the past few years.
Jim had been a member of All Saints Catholic Church years ago. He enjoyed reading, computer games, fishing, hunting, and camping in his younger years. Jim loved science fiction, whether it be books, movies or television shows. He loved drinking Coca Cola, and was a true connoisseur of Coke; he could tell whether it came from a can or a bottle. He thoroughly enjoyed the three trips he made to Disney World. He loved playing with his grandchildren, was a tickler and a prankster, and loved to just relax.
