Girls and Boys State reps for 2012

Emily Moore and Anthony Hunt will represent CIHS at the 2012 Girls and Boys State sessions.

The American Legion Howard McCarty Post 290 and Auxiliary announced its Boys’ and Girls’ State representatives from Cambridge-Isanti High School and Braham Area High School for 2012.

Emily Moore, daughter of Dennis and Laura Moore, from CIHS and Jessica Westman, daughter of Tom and Mellisa Westman, from BAHS will attend Girls’ State at Bethel University. Anthony Hunt, son of Greg and Jennifer Hunt, from CIHS will attend Boys’ State at Southwest State University from June 10-16.

In case Ms. Westman from Braham can not attend Girls‘ State, Samantha Patterson, daughter of Dan and Tammy Patterson, was chosen as the alternate.

Boys’ and Girls’ State are intense sessions, conducted by Legion and Auxiliary members, involving the attendees in a practical training program in local and state government using practical applications of Americanism and good citizenship. The participants learn government by “living” it, in mythical cities, counties and state. By carrying out the process of government, they learn by doing while becoming aware of the privileges and duties of a good citizen.

The hope of the program is to create enduring interest in governmental affairs and to provide encouragement to become future leaders.
