Howard F. Carson, 86, a longtime resident of Braham, Minn. and a winter resident of Apache Junction, Ariz. passed away peacefully March 10, 2012 at Mountain Vista Hospital in Mesa, Ariz. after suffering a stroke.
Howard was born Dec. 31, 1925, the fourth of five children born to Walter and Ida Carson in Henderson, Minn. He attended school in Henderson, Minn., and helped work on his parents truck farm business.
In 1940 the family moved to the Kanabec County area and they continued the family farm there. He graduated from Mora High School. In 1945 Howard’s family moved to the Braham area and he began to farm in Royalton Township. In 1948 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Lee) Wroolie. One daughter, Vicki was born to them. He then made a choice to begin farming full time. Howard sold and installed Patz and VanDale farm equipment in the area for over 35 years. He also served on the Royalton Township board for a number of years as well. In August of 1997 the decided to sell the their dairy herd and begin their adventure wintering in Arizona with family and friends. They enjoyed their trips to the dessert and surrounding areas. Every spring he was eager to get back to Minnesota for planting and working around the farm. When fall would arrive he was involved with harvesting all the crops and by the end of the harvest season they were ready to leave for their winter time retreat to Arizona.
Over the past few years his health had been declining and he resigned from the farm operation with his family and took up the job of Chief Lawn Mower for the entire family. Most summer days you could find him in one of the yards mowing or driving to and from each of the homes. He was anxiously waiting for this spring to arrive to start up his summer job in Minnesota again before he passed.
Howard is proceeded in death by his parents Ida and Walter Carson, brothers George and Archie.
He is survived by his wife Lee (Elizabeth) of 63 years of marriage; one daughter Vicki (Doug) Eklund of Braham; 3 grandsons, Daniel (Kathleen) Eklund of Braham, Brian (Jennifer) Eklund of Braham, and Michael (Nicole) Eklund of Braham; 2 great-grandsons Jesse and Wyatt Eklund.
He is survived by his brother Ben (Helen) Carson of Oregon, sister Marie Carson of Idaho, sister in-law Norma (Archie) Carson, several nieces and nephews and other family members, and very special friends of Apache Junction Hoot, Indian Joe, Jack and their families.
A celebration of Howard’s life was held at his home in Arizona on March 13, 2012 and a Celebration of Life will be held in Braham at a later date when his wife returns home to Minnesota.
