Supt. Greg Winter
Braham Area School District
Now in my third year as superintendent at Braham Area Schools, the school board and I are committed to running an efficient district that maintains our buildings and creates additional educational opportunities for our students.
There have been numerous projects to upgrade and maintain the physical structures in our district and plan for future needs. We have already committed the funding necessary to reroof two more sections of our elementary and part of the roof over the east gym at the high school this summer.
Also in the planning stages is creating a WiFi environment throughout the whole district. This WiFi environment will be robust enough to run individual student’s tablet type devices as we bring them online the next couple of years. We will be coordinating all future curricular decisions with the ever increasing use of tablet type devices to continue to create 21st century learning environments for our students.
The week of Feb. 20 – 24 was School Board Recognition Week. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank our school board for all of the hard work they do for our students, staff and community.
There is another recognition I would like to personally highlight. This past year one of our elementary teachers, Joan Burke, was selected as the Minnesota VFW Elementary Teacher of the Year. It has been my honor to be a part of the Veteran’s Day program that she was instrumental in planning at our elementary.
One final program I would like to highlight is our music program. Recently, our band had the honor to play at the opening ceremony of the Minnesota School Board Association (MSBA) conference in January. On Jan. 14, 24 of our students participated at the Two Rivers Conference Honor Band and Choir Concert. Students participating at these concerts had only one day of practice before the performance that night. Congratulations to Morgan O’Brien and Abby Salmonson on their selection as first chair and their solos during the concert.
