Braham, with its 25-1 record, was seeded No. 2 in the South Subsection of Section 7AA boys basketball. The Bombers will open at home against No. 7 Rush City (8-13) on Wednesday, March 7 (7 p.m.). Braham defeated the Tigers twice during the Great River Conference season by an average score of 88.5-41.
With a victory that night, Braham would proceed to the 7AA quarterfinals on Saturday, March 10 (6 p.m.) at the University of Minnesota-Duluth against either South No. 3 Moose Lake-WR (14-12) or No. 6 Aitkin (9-17). North No. 1 seed and defending section champ Virginia (20-6) is also in that half of the brackets.
The 7AA semifinals will be Thursday, March 15 at UMD (6:00/7:45 p.m.) with the championship game scheduled for Saturday, March 17 (7:00 p.m.) back at UMD.
Esko (22-4) got the South No. 1 seed and will open against No. 8 Pine City (5-21). Also in that half of the brackets are South No. 4 Mora (8-18), North No. 3 International Falls (17-8) and North No. 2 Deer River (23-3).
C-I Boys open at Blaine March 8
The Cambridge-Isanti boys basketball team was seeded No. 7 for the Section 7AAAA playoffs. The Bluejackets travel to No. 2 Blaine (15-11) for the Thursday, March 8 quarterfinal game (7 p.m.). A victory there would next have the Jackets traveling to either No. 3 Anoka (10-16) or No. 6 Andover (5-21) for the Tuesday, March 13 semifinals (7 p.m.).
Duluth East (18-8) is the top-seed for 7AAAA. The Greyhounds get a first-round bye and will play either No. 4 Forest Lake (11-15) or No. 5 St. Francis (9-17) in Tuesday’s semifinals. The section championship game will be 7 p.m. on Friday, March 16 at Elk River.
