Two Bluejackets reach State Swim/Dive meet

During the big playoff weekend, the Cambridge-Isanti boys swim & dive team finished in 5th place at the Section 7AA Finals hosted in Coon Rapids. Two Bluejackets– senior Benj Nault-Maurer and sophomore Parker Brown– advanced to this weekend’s Class AA State meet.

Parker Brown earned his first State berth in Diving by placing 4th at Friday’s 7AA finals.

In Saturday afternoon’s second event, Nault-Maurer placed 2nd in the 200 Freestyle by a mere half-second over Anoka’s Gerick. Nault-Maurer also competed at State in 2011 on the 400 Free Relay.

On Friday night in the 7AA Diving competition, Brown climbed the ladder to place 4th with 327.1 points, eclipsing 5th-place Croaston of Champlin Park by 25 points. Brown was 9th last year in 7AA Diving.

The Bluejackets had three close calls for additional State berths at sections. The 200 Freestyle Relay of Nault-Maurer, Kyle McCormick, Grant McCormick and Calvin Cicha placed 3rd, just a half-second back of the 2nd-place Anoka foursome. In the 400 Free Relay, the McCormicks, Darren Codner and Nault-Maurer placed 3rd, just 2.6 seconds out of 2nd place. And in the 100 Breaststroke, Cicha took home a 3rd-place medal by finishing 2 seconds out of the runner-up slot.

The C-I Medley Relay (in back) of Darren Codner, Matt Taray, Calvin Cicha and John Solberg stood on the podium with their 6th-place medals Saturday in Coon Rapids.

Anoka won its fifth-straight Section 7AA championship handily over runner-up Forest Lake. More top-10 placers for the Bluejackets at sections were: K. McCormick (5th in the 50 Free, 7th in the 100 Free); G.
