The Cambridge-Isanti Wrestlers had three members earn berths in this weekend’s State Tourney at the Xcel Center– all returning medal winners from last year’s State meet.
At Saturday’s Class AAA Individuals held at Elk River, senior Clayton Jennissen won the 182 lb. class with a major decision, a 5-0 decision then by having St. Michael’s Ricky Briggs pull out of the finals with an injury default.
Junior Travis Holt won the 160 title at the 7AAAs by decisioning Parsons of Andover 6-2 in the title match. Travis opened his tourney with a win by default and a 9-1 major in the semis.
Sophomore Cody Skog won the 152 championship bout by pinning St. Francis’ Charles in the second period. Skog also won his first two matches by fall.
The Class AAA Individuals open at 9 a.m. Friday, March 2 at the Xcel, with the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Saturday’s wrestlebacks start at 10 a.m., with 3rd & 5th place matches at 5 p.m. and championship bouts at 7:30 p.m.
Anderson reaches State for Rush City-Braham
Junior Brady Anderson was the lone Rush City-Braham wrestler to reach State out of the Section 7AA Individuals tourney held at Mora last weekend. Anderson placed 2nd at 138 lbs., dropping a 5-4 decision to Zupko of Chisago Lakes in the title bout. The Tigers had three members place 3rd: Isaiah Johnson (160), Logan Johnson (170) and Jacob Lynch (195).
C-I Swim/Dive sends two members to State
The Cambridge-Isanti boys swim & dive team had two members earn trips to this week’s State Meet at the U of M Aquatics Center. Last Friday night, sophomore Parker Brown placed 4th in the Section 7AA Diving competition to earn his first State berth. He will dive in the March 1 prelims (6 p.m.)
At Saturday’s Section 7AA Swim finals, senior Benj Nault-Maurer placed 2nd in the 200 Freestyle to reach State. He next competes in the Class AA Swim prelims March 2 (6 p.m.).
Overall, the Bluejackets placed 5th in 7AA as Anoka went on to win its fifth-straight section championship handily.
