CCS sweeps Immanuel but falls to Mt. Lake

The Cambridge Christian hoops squads split their weekend action with Christian Athletic League games against Immanuel Lutheran and Mt. Lake Christian. Friday night, the Warrior girls defeated Immanuel 53-17, led by Ellie Werlein (19 points,10 steals), Kristin Bergman (10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals), and Shelby Doble (6 points, 4 rebounds).

“Friday night was the best defense I have seen our team play.  Immanuel was a tough matchup for us last year, and they didn’t graduate any players last year, so we expected a tough game,” said CCS Coach Brian Bergman.

But the following morning, the shots wouldn’t fall and turnovers rose in a 50-37 loss to Mt. Lake. Doble had a great game with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Werlein (12 points, 7 steals). Kellie Pedersen (8 points, 6 rebounds) and Bergman (4 points, 11 rebounds) also stacked up nice stats.

The CCS boys delivered a 77-44 win over Immanuel in the Friday double-header as Peter Maring racked up 35 points and 7 rebounds. Adding key stats were Jake Bergman (11 points, 6 steals), Josiah Scheumann (10 points, 6 rebounds) and Josh Roble (5 points, 6 steals).

On Saturday, Mt. Lake stayed ahead of the Warriors in the CAL standings with a 45-42 win. Maring again paced CCS with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals. Scheumann added 5 points, and Bergman had 4 points and 3 assists.
