The Cambridge-Isanti-Mora-Pine City girls hockey team was seeded 5th for the 2012 Section 7AA playoffs. The Bluejackets (8-14-3) will travel to No. 4 seed Duluth (8-16-2) for the Feb. 9 quarterfinals– 7 p.m. at Heritage Arena in Duluth.
The Bluejackets defeated the Northern Stars 7-6 in OT back on the Nov. 12 season-opener. Leading point-scorers for CIMPC entering the quarterfinals are Kaity Ripp (10G/8A- 18 pts), Holly Guerin (7G/11A- 18), Alex Nelson (9G/7A- 16), Megan Erickson (10G/6A- 16), Taylor Bowker (3G/12A- 15) and Alyssa Christensen (5G/6A- 11). The top two scorers for Duluth are Nikki Logergren (20G/7A- 27) and Claudia Gagnon (7G/18A- 25).
The winner of the CIMPC/Duluth game will then head to No. 1 seed Elk River for a semifinal match on Saturday, Feb. 11 (time TBD). The defending section champ Elks (19-3-3) are ranked 7th in Class AA and led in scoring by Ms. Hockey nominee Jonna Curtis (34G/24A- 58) and Josie Brown (12G/12A- 24). Goalie Tori Herrmann has a hot 1.39 GAA and 19 wins for the Elks.
In the other half of the brackets, No. 2 Grand Rapids-Greenway (14-7-3) hosts No. 7 St. Francis-North Branch (3-19-1), and No. 3 Cloquet-Esko-Carlton (11-12-1) hosts No. 6 Forest Lake (5-16-3). Grand Rapids boasts Ms. Hockey nominee Molly Illikainen (28G/17A- 45) and Kayla Baker (15G/15A- 30).
NWC 4, Bluejackets 1
North Wright County wrapped up the 2012 Mississippi 8 Conference championship by defeating CIMPC at home Feb. 3. The RiverHawks, ranked 18th in Class AA, put up a four-pack of goals in the second period, with Paige Voight netting the first two. The Jackets’ lone goal came from Katie McMann on a third-period power-play.
