Hastings tips C-I Wrestlers for title at Anoka Duals

For the second time over three weeks, the Cambridge-Isanti wrestlers lost a tight match to 2nd-ranked Hastings when the Raiders rallied for a 33-31 victory in the title match of Saturday’s Anoka Duals.

Ty Torgerson reached the 100-win career mark at the Anoka Duals.

Wrestling without injured starters Travis Swanson at 112 and Robbie Phillips at 138, the 4th-ranked Bluejackets used a 22-8 Tommy Guy major at 106 and a Ben Hartnett fall at 126 to stay within reach down 12-10 after four matches. The Raiders posted consecutive decisions to build an 18-10 edge, but then the Jackets went on a roll.

Ty Torgerson earned his 100th career victory with a 11-2 major at 145. Travis Holt worked for a 12-3 major at 152, and Cole Bakke finished with a 7-4 decision t 160. Cody Skog followed with a 10-2 major at 170, then the Raiders bumped ranked Jake Swenson away from Clayton Jennissen at 182, with Jennissen earning a second-period fall to make it 31-18 Jackets. That was Jennissen’s 165th career win which put him in 2nd-place for all-time C-I wrestling victories.

Swenson got his pin at 195 to start the rally. C-I’s Dakota Johnson battled hard against 4th-ranked Isaac Eichmann at 220 until the Raider got a pin with 17 seconds to go. Hastings’ Jake Anderson finished the rally with a 1-0 decision at 285.

Clayton Jennisen earned his 165th career win for Bluejacket Wrestling, 2nd all-time to Luke Becker (210 wins).

The Bluejackets opened the tourney with a 67-11 win over section-mate Andover. In the semis, they pulled off a solid 40-24 win over new London-Spicer– ranked 5th in AA. Posting falls against the Wildcats were Torgerson at 145, Holt at 152, Johnson at 220 and Jon Knowlton at 285.

Bluejackets 34, Becker 22

The Bluejackets closed out the Mississippi 8 schedule with a road win over the Class AA 8th-ranked Bulldogs Feb. 3. Harnett at 126, Jennisen at 195 and Trent Chromy at 220 earned falls for C-I.

The Raiders won a GRC dual at Braham Feb. 2 by racking up seven falls over the 14 matches. Posting wins for the Tigers were Patrick Sendlhoffer (pin at 126), Brady Anderson (decision at 145), Johnathan Mielke (decision at 182), Jacob Lynch (pin at 195) and Nick Kost (pin at 220).

The RC-B Tigers next head to Onamia Feb. 10 for the GRC Finals.
