Jacket girls beat Magic, Saints

BASKETBALL UPDATES: The Cambridge-Isanti girls basketball squad raised its season record to 12-7 with a pair of victories over the weekend. Friday night, the Bluejackets picked up a conference road win over Rogers by a 58-44 score. Leading point-scorers for C-I were Whitney Olson (26), Brynn Liljander (12) and Natalie Larson (9).

• On Saturday, the Bluejackets finished off a double-header with the boys teams by defeating section-partner St. Francis 61-47. Olson hit six three-pointers to lead with 30 points. Amanda Hanson added 11 points, and Liljander 9.

Buffalo 7-0, 17-3; St. Michael-Alb. 6-1, 14-6; Cambridge-Isanti 4-3, 12-7; Rogers 3-4, 10-10; Monticello 3-4, 9-8; Becker 1-6, 4-13; Big Lake 0-6, 4-14.

BR Girls 98, Hinckley 18

The Braham girls basketball team upped its Great River Conference record to 10-0 by hammering visiting Hinckley-Finlayson 98-18 Jan. 27. Leading the way in scoring were Becca Dahlman (29), Kayla Nickles (21), Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow (19), and Dani Braund (11).

• On Jan. 31, the Bombers kept rolling with an 87-18 win at Onamia.

Braham Boys tame Jags, Panthers

Cameron Braund scored 27, Anthony Bias 23 and Tyler Vaughan 11 when Braham swept Hinckley-Fin. with an 80-31 home win Jan. 26. Braund doubled-up with 13 rebounds, and Vaughan finished with 11 assists and 9 rebounds.

On Jan. 31, the Bombers beat Onamia 102-39 with five players in double-digit scoring: Vaughan (24), Bias (23), Sam Stigen (15), Braund (13), and Zach Dahlman (10). Braund added 8 rebounds and 6 steals, with Vaughan swiping 7 steals and dishing 8 assists.

Saints, Royals top C-I Boys

In the opening game of the Jan. 28 double-header at St. Francis, the Saints scored 47 second-half points to work past the Bluejackets in a non-conference game. Top points scorers for C-I were Jonah Poppen (15), Tom Selz (11), Hunter Vavra (9) and Matt Swanson (8). Swanson led with 7 rebounds, with Poppen and Selz passing for 4 and 3 assists.

• On Jan. 31, Rogers took a 73-50 M-8 road win at CIHS. Selz and Poppen again led the Jackets in scoring with 14 and 12 points.

Warriors split with rival Christian Life

The Cambridge Christian boys improved to 12-2 on the season by defeating host Christian Life 79-34 Jan. 27. Peter Maring paced the Warriors with 30 points, followed by Josiah Scheumann (12) and Anders Boyum (10).).

In the opening game, Ellie Werlein scored 23 and both Shelby Doble and Mikayla Lecceardone scored 9 as the Warrior girls fell to the Hawks 64-58.
