The Cambridge-Isanti Wrestling team had a successful weekend at the 9th grade State wrestling tournament on Jan. 21. The Bluejacket started with wins over Totino-Grace and Detroit Lakes before falling to eventual runner-up Hastings. Following the quarterfinal loss, the C-I wrestlers loss a nail-biter to Farmington. Finally, in the 7th-place match the Bluejackets defeated a strong Bloomington Kennedy team. As an unseeded team in the tournament the C-I wrestlers were able to place 7th out of 24 teams.
Last Saturday, the Bluejackets placed 2nd to Anoka at the 12-team Region 6 Individual tourney, qualifying members for the 9th grade State Individuals in Champlin Park coming this weekend. Leading the team were 1st-place wrestlers Brady Kuntz (100 lbs.), David Kent (132) and Mike Seafolk (170). Placing 2nd were Monty Fredericksen (113), Dylan Auren (120) and Caleb Brennan (160). Taking 3rd was Carlo Holmberg (94).
Jacket Varsity beats Monticello:
On Jan. 27, the C-I varsity wrestlers defeated visiting Monticello 50-20 to improve to 19-4 on the season (4-1 in Mississippi 8 duals).
Rush City-Braham Wrestlers 7th at GR Invite
The Tiger wrestlers finished 7th out of 12 teams at the Jan. 28 Grand Rapids Invite won by the host Thunderhawks. Leading RC-B at the meet were Johnathan Mielke (2nd at 182), Jacob Lynch (2nd at 197), Tyler Sitz (5th at 113) and Logan Johnson (5th at 170).
• At the Jan. 26 Mora Triangular, the Tigers fell 55-24 to Little Falls and 70-6 to the host Mustangs. The Tigers are 3-5 in overall dual meets this season.
