CIMPC Girls Hockey beats Rogers 4-2
WEEKEND SPORTS: The Cambridge-Isanti-Mora-Pine City girls hockey team evened its Mississippi 8 record at 3-3-1 by blitzing past visiting Rogers 4-2 Jan. 27. The Bluejackets received first-period goals from Katie McMann, Kaity Ripp and Alex Nelson, then Taylor Bowker’s breakaway goal had CIMPC leading 4-1 just 1:11 into the second period.
• On Saturday, Jan. 28, host Cloquet-Esko-Carlton shut out the Bluejacket girls 4-0, owning a 39-16 shots-on-goal edge. The Lumberjacks, section partners of CIMPC, are now 11-11-1 on the season while the Bluejackets are 8-12-3.
Rud wins C-I Gymnast All-Arounds
Freshman Britta Rud showed off her skills with a 37.05 total score to win Saturday’s Bluejacket All-Around gymnastics meet hosted at CIHS. More Jacket gymnasts finishing in the top-10 were seniors Michelle Ziebarth (3rd, 34.85) and Jessica Christensen (8th, 33.85).
C-I Boys Swim/Dive 2nd at own Bluejacket Invite
The Cambridge-Isanti boys swim & dive squad finished 2nd to Elk River at their six-team Bluejacket Invite on Saturday. The 200 Free Relay of Calvin Cicha, Joe Lewis, Grant McCormick and Kyle McCormick won its race with a 1:37.1 time. More C-I highlights were Parker Brown 2nd in Diving with 328.6 points on 11 dives, Cicha placing 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke (1:04) and 3rd in the 200 IM (2:10.6), Benj Nault-Maurer 2nd in the 100 Backstroke (1:00.2) and 3rd in the 200 Freestyle (1:56.7) and Grant McCormick placing 5th in both the 200 Free (1:58) and 100 Butterfly (1:01).
Bluejacket Girls Hoops wins two
The Cambridge-Isanti girls basketball squad raised its season record to 12-7 with a pair of victories over the weekend. Friday night, the Bluejackets picked up a conference road win over Rogers by a 58-44 score. Leading point-scorers for C-I were Whitney Olson (26), Brynn Liljander (12) and Natalie Larson (9).
• On Saturday, the Bluejackets finished off a double-header with the boys teams by defeating section-partner St. Francis 61-47. Olson hit six three-pointers to lead with 30 points. Amanda Hanson added 11 points, and Liljander 9.
Braham girls win big over Jaguars
The Braham girls basketball team upped its Great River Conference record to 10-0 by hammering visiting Hinckley-Finlayson 98-18 Jan. 27. Leading the way in scoring were Becca Dahlman (29), Kayla Nickles (21), Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow (19), and Dani Braund (11).
Warrior boys defeat rival Christian Life
The Cambridge Christian boys basketball squad improved to 12-2 on the season by defeating host Christian Life 79-34 Jan. 27. Peter Maring paced the Warriors with 30 points, followed by Josiah Scheumann (12) and Anders Boyum (10).
