Saturday’s Bluejacket Swim Invite is 7AA preview

The Cambridge-Isanti boys swim & dive team closes the regular season with a nice home stretch, beginning with a Jan. 26 conference dual with Monticello. This Saturday, the squad hosts its annual Bluejacket Invite with 14 teams coming to the CIHS pool.

The Invite will be a good preview of the Section 7AA meet coming next month since Andover, Blaine, Champin Park, Coon Rapids and Duluth East will be competing.

St. Michael 97, C-I 81

St. Michael-Albertville took another big step toward claiming its first-ever Mississippi 8 swim championship by handling the visiting Bluejackets 97-81 Jan. 19. The Knights also defeated three-time defending M-8 champ Monticello 95-91 back on Jan. 12.

Calvin Cicha was the lone event winner for the Bluejackets when he took both the 200 IM (2:12.3) and 100 Breaststroke (1:05.7) races. In Diving, Parker Brown (194.8) and Austin Hemmelgarn (168.4) placed 2nd and 3rd.

Also placing 2nd for the Jackets was the 200 Medley Relay of Benj Nault-Maurer, Cicha, John Solberg and Grant McCormick with a 1:50.9 combined time. Placing 3rd for C-I were Nault-Maurer in the 100 Backstroke and Darren Codner in the 500 Freestyle.
