Jacket Girls Hockey ties Spartans

Hosting their former conference partner Orono Jan. 20, the Cambridge-Isanti-Mora-Pine City girls hockey team skated to a 4-4 tie. The Spartans rallied from a 4-2 deficit with two goals midway through the third period and outshot the Bluejackets 6-1 in overtime.

Goals by Shelby Sylvester, Katie McCann and Holly Guerin had the Bluejackets bolting out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Orono held a strong shots-on-goal advantage in the second period and cut into the lead with one goal. The Spartans added their second goal 1:30 into the third period before Megan Erickson’s short-handed score three minutes later gave the Bluejackets a two-goal advantage again. Goalie A.J. Smith finished with a whopping 65 saves in the CIMPC nets.

CIMPC 4, Princeton 4

On Tuesday, Jan. 24 it was the Bluejackets rallying to forge a tie when they traveled to rival Princeton for a Mississippi 8 battle. Alyssa Christenson and Kaity Ripp scored six minutes apart in the third period to overcome a 4-2 deficit to the Tigers.

Princeton was leading 2-0 in the first period when Megan Erickson got the Bluejackets on the board. She then assisted on Alex Nelson’s power play goal in the second period. Tiger forward Julie Osowski scored her second goal of the period with 21 seconds remaining to push her team out to the 4-2 edge.

Knights hold off C-I boys 6-4

Sophomore Kurtis Grimm scored his second goal of the game 17 seconds into the third period for a 4-3 Bluejacket lead, but the host Knights responded with three straight goals to drop Cambridge-Isanti’s record to 0-3 in Mississippi 8 boys hockey. Also scoring for the Jackets were Skye Hunt-Schuft and Jordan Locken, with Jared Knutson making 26 saves on 32 shots.

2nd Annual Military Appreciation Night at Isanti Arena Feb. 11

In conjunction with the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejacket Boys Hockey varsity game at 7 p.m., the Isanti Civic Ice Arena would like to show appreciation for the area’s military veterans, both active and retired, on Saturday, Feb. 11.

The local color guard will perform the pregame honors, and various local and regional military veteran service organizations will be present. All are encouraged to come enjoy the fellowship while supporting the Bluejacket Boys hockey team for their “Senior Night” competition against St. Michael-Albertville. JV game starts at 5:15 p.m.; Varsity starts at 7 p.m.

All veterans with a valid active, guard/reserve, or retired military ID will be admitted free of charge to both games. Cake and coffee will be served. The Isanti Ice Arena is located at 600 1st Ave N. in Isanti (southeast of Bluebird Park).
