City Center Market celebrates 33 years
And their new coffee shop, City Center Café, celebrates Grand Opening
Birthday cake, music, chair massage, and of course specials and samples will be available for co-op shoppers on Saturday, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in celebration of their 33rd birthday.
City Center Café, the co-op’s new coffee shop, will also be celebrating a Grand Opening with free brewed coffee, $2 lattes, drawings and sampling. The Café, which opened in September, uses exclusively Peace Coffee, a Minneapolis-roasted organic, fair trade and shade-grown coffee. Peace Coffee staff will be on hand to offer samples of several of their many blends, and Peace Coffee beans will be 10 percent off in the Café. In addition to coffee, there will be samples of fresh made-from-scratch cinnamon rolls, breakfast pastries and cheesecake!
The Café will hold a drawing every hour for a $5 gift card, and if you bring two items for the food shelf, you’ll receive a free punch on your coffee card. Customers may also enter a drawing for one of two beautiful quilts, donated to the Café by barista Cherie Merritt.
Local guitarist and singer Kenny Krona will perform from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Chair massage will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., courtesy of WillowBridge Center. Spend $33 in the store and be entered in a drawing for 33 of the Co-op’s most popular items! And be sure to check out the $3.33 specials!
Thirty-three years ago, 11 community members founded MOMS Food Co-op in the Grandy school house. They wanted good organic foods close to home so they didn’t have to drive to the Cities. Over the following years, MOMS moved from Grandy to Cambridge, started carrying packaged groceries and supplements and much more in addition to bulk foods and spices, and in 2007 moved into their current location at 122 N. Buchanan St. and changed their name to City Center Market.
