Coach Wendy Rooney noted that her Bluejacket gymnasts showed improved focus and consistency while posting a 3rd-place 136.975 at the Jan. 7 Faribault Invitational. Defending Class AA champ Northfield won the meet by a wide margin with its 147.1 total.
With top-scoring senior Emily Stewart gone for the season with a torn ACL, senior Michelle Ziebarth stepped into a leadership role by placing 10th in the All-Around with 34.675 points. Her top events were the Vault (9.075) and the Floor (8.9). Britta Rud, coming back from a foot injury, added a 9th-place 8.7 on the Bars.
More leading scorers for the Bluejackets were: Morgan Urness (9.2 on Floor), Jessica Christensen (8.75 on Floor, 8.75 on Beam, 8.7 on Vault), and Hannah Haight (8.55 on Floor).

The Bluejackets struggled but had enough savvy to defeat the visiting Tigers in a non-conference meet Jan. 5. Rud led the way with a 9.35 Beam routine, and Urness scored an 8.95 on the Floor.
The patched-up Jackets will need a consistent overall night when they travel to Big Lake Jan. 12 for a key Mississippi 8 matchup.
