Braham Girls slip past Huskies

The Bomber girls had their hands full at Isle Jan. 5, but came away with a 71-70 road win. Austyn Eng hit six 3s to score 20 points, and Becca Dahlman sank two free throws with 17 seconds remaining to get to 32 points and sealing the win.

Coach Tim Malone: “We were ahead 41-26 at the half and maybe relaxed a bit in the second half. I have a lot of respect for Coach Paul and the Isle girls who go 10 deep with their bench. They shot lights out in the second half by hitting six three-pointers. But they sagged off Austyn, and she was able to keep knocking down 3s, too. After Becca’s free throws put us ahead, Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow came up with a huge defensive rebound after Isle took an off-balance shot, and she passed ahead to Austyn who dribbled out the clock.”

Sorenson-Giffrow finished with 10 rebounds and 6 points, with Dahlman and Kayla Nickles grabbing 12 and 8 more boards. More scoring came from Dani Braund (7), Amanda Sybrant (4) and Caitlin Richmond (2).

The Bombers extended their GRC lead by beating visiting Pine City 83-33 Jan. 10. Dahlman scored 35, Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow 17, Eng 9 and Becca Cuda returned to the lineup from her knee injury to score 5. Dahlman also contributed 11 steals and 9 rebounds, with KSG snaring 7 rebounds and passing well for 5 assists.
