C-I Wrestlers win own Bluejacket Invite

Cambridge-Isanti once again defended its title at the Bluejacket Invitational hosted Jan. 7 at CIHS. The Bluejackets scored 220 points to easily surpass runner-up Prior Lake among the eight teams competing.

Four C-I wrestlers won their weights at the Invite: Tommy Guy at 106, Ty Torgerson at 152, Clayton Jennissen at 182 and Dakota Johnson at 220. Finishing in 2nd place were Nate Nassif (145), Travis Holt (160), and Cole Bakke (170).

C-I Wrestling 52, Anoka 15

The Bluejackets improved to 11-2 in overall duals after dominating the Section 7AAA partner Tornadoes at home Jan. 5.

Warrior Girls win St. Francis Tourney

Cambridge Christian girls basketball went 3-0 to claim the championship at last weekend’s St. Francis Tournament. The Warriors (12-1 overall) held off Heritage Christian 53-48 in the title game, led by 29 points from Ellie Werlein.

C-I Girls Basketball 92, Tartan 57

The Bluejackets raised their overall record to 7-6 by rocking to a home victory Saturday afternoon. Leading Cambridge-Isanti scorers were Whitney Olson (26), Brynn Liljander (22) and Paige Muehlhauser (13).

Braham Boys Basketball 78, Isle 38

The Bombers stayed a perfect 5-0 in the Great River Conference by handling the Huskies at home Jan. 6. Five Bombers scored in double-figures: Anthony Bias (19), Tyler Vaughan (15), Shaun Hollenkamp (13), Zach Dahlman (13) and Sam Stigen (10).

Monticello C-I Boys Basketball 63, Tartan 55

The Magic got their first win in the Mississippi 8 Conference by downing the visiting Bluejackets Jan. 6. Scoring leaders for C-I (2-9 overall) were Tom Selz (15), Hunter Vavra (10) and Jordan Schleicher (10).

C-I Boys Hockey 6, Spring Lake Park 2

The Bluejackets upped their overall record to 4-8 with a non-conference win over the Panthers Jan. 7. Cody Horbacz scored twice in the first period, and Peter Storlie scored twice in the second period for the Bluejackets to help create a 4-1 lead. Adding Jacket goals in the victory were Elliott Simon and Matt Derby.
