Jacket Boys Hockey splits games during holiday break

Senior defenseman Sam Renier broke a 0-0 deadlock with an end-to-end rush culiminated with a goal off a quick wrist shot with 1:07 left in the first period, and the Cambridge-Isanti boys hockey team kept rolling to a 6-1 win over visiting North Branch Dec. 29.

Just 19 seconds after Renier’s goal, Skye Hunt-Schuft lifted the puck over the Viking goalie for a 2-0 lead heading into the first break. Brennan Osen delivered two C-I goals in the second period, with additional goals coming from Kurtis Grimm and Colton Miller. The Jackets owned a 64-20 shots-on-goal advantage over North Branch (3-8) in the non-conference battle.

• On Dec. 30, the host Bluejackets were tipped by Windom 5-3. The Eagles (4-5-1) led 2-0 after two periods before C-I’s Jordan Locken scored 47 seconds into the third stanza. Windom countered with two more goals before Locken and Ryan Epsen notched goals to get the Jackets to within 4-3 before the Eagles scored their final goal with 27 seconds left in regulation.
