Big weekend upcoming for C-I Wrestlers

Clayton Jennissen led the Bluejacket Wrestlers with a 2nd-place showing at the large Rumble on the Red invite last weekend. Clayton went 4-1 to place 2nd in the tourney. In the process, he became the fifth Bluejacket to reach 150 career wins when he decisioned Totino’s Benick in the semifinals.

Cambridge-Isanti wrestlers challenged a stacked field of 28 teams to finish in 7th place at the Dec. 29-30 Rumble on the Red invite hosted at the Fargodome. The Bluejackets finished with four medalists and 137 points to place behind invite champ Scott West (207) and runner-up Albert Lea (190.5).

Clayton Jennissen led the C-I contingent by placing 2nd at 182 lbs. Jennissen began the tourney with three falls before decisioning Totino-Grace’s Benick 7-4 in the semis for his 150th career victory. West Fargo’s Lehmann then majored the Jacket 11-2 in the championship.

Travis Holt at 160 and Cody Skog at 152 both placed 5th for the Jackets. Holt opened with three straight falls and an 8-4 OT decision before dropping a 9-7 decision to eventual champ Vancura of Jackson Co. Central. Holt rallied to win the 5th-place match 4-3 over Minneota’s Lessman.

Skog strung a fall, 9-1 major and 9-4 decision to reach the semis where Medford’s Maas prevailed 9-1. Skog came back to take his 5th-place match 5-3 over Skiens of Service H.S.

Ty Tischer was the final Jacket to medal when he placed 6th at 136. Tischer had two pins and a major before falling 4-3 in OT to Scott West’s Zilverberg.

Senior Ty Tischer won his 100th career match for Bluejacket Wrestling with a pin of Lisbon’s Johnson in the Dec. 29 opening round of the Rumble on the Red. Tischer went on to place 6th at 132 in the tourney.

More leading Bluejacket varsity wrestlers at the Rumble: C.J. Schlichtman (3-3 at 138), Ty Torgerson (3-2 at 145), Cole Bakke (3-2 at 170).


• The Jacket JV ran away with its team title at the Rumble, led by Robbie Phillips (138), Nate Nassif (145) and Derick DeMars (285) winning their weights.

• The Bluejackets host a huge weekend at the CIHS gym when 12th-ranked 7AAA foe Anoka comes to town Jan. 6. On Saturday is the annual Bluejacket Invite with Prior Lake, Little Falls and Grand Rapids among the tough teams entered. C-I wrestling alumni are invited to be recognized prior to the 4 p.m. finals, with social at Sidelines following the tourney.
