THURSDAY SPORTS: Princeton’s Thomas Klaphake broke a 63-63 tie with a driving shot banked home with 2.6 seconds left in overtime to lift the Tigers past host Cambridge-Isanti in Dec. 22 non-conference boys basketball action.
Jonah Poppen (11 points) sunk four free throws late in regulation, and Jake Johnson’s 17-foot jumper with a minute to go tied the game at 60-60 to send it into OT.
Hunter Vavra, playing strongly inside, led CI with 13 points, and Tom Selz popped a pair of 3s to finish with 11 points before fouling out. Clinton Treichel added 7 points with good play inside in the first half for the Bluejackets (1-6).
St. Michael-Albertville 77, C-I Girls Basketball 43
The Knights handled the visiting Bluejackets in both halves to win the Dec. 22 Mississippi 8 game, led by 17 points from Sydney Tracy. Paige Muehlhauser was the Jackets’ leading scorer with 11 points, followed by 9 points from Brynn Liljander and Whitney Olson. C-I is now 1-1 in the M-8, 5-4 overall.
Braham Girls Basketball 74, Duluth East 34
The Bombers, 8-0 and ranked 2nd in Class AA, shot past the host Greyhounds Dec. 22. Becca Dahlman paced Braham with 35 points, with Kayla Nickles scoring 25 and Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow 15.
Coon Rapids 2, C-I Boys Hockey 1
The visiting Cardinals won the Dec. 22 non-conference game at Isanti after taking a 2-0 lead early in the second period. The lone Bluejacket goal came from Cody Horbacz.
Sartell-Sauk Rapids 3, CIMPC Girls Hockey 2 OT
The Stormin’ Sabres scored 5:48 into overtime to post home victory over Cambridge-Isanti-Mora-Pine City Dec. 22. Rapping home goals for the Bluejackets (6-7) were Taylor Bowker and Kristin Eustice.
Orono 105, C-I Boys Swim 76
The Spartans won the Dec. 22 home dual meet over the Bluejackets (2-1), setting a pool record in the 200 Free Relay in the process.
