C-I Swim opens with win over East

The Cambridge-Isanti boys swim & dive team began its season on a successful note, downing visiting Duluth East 96-85 in a matchup of Section 7AA partners Dec. 13.

The Greyhounds had several good swims to earn 1st places in the meet, but the Bluejackets’ depth was a difference maker. Grant McCormick (2:03.1) and Joe Lewis (2:08.1) placed 2nd and 3rd in the 200 Freestyle, followed by Calvin Cicha (2:16.2) and John Solberg (2:30.8) placing 2nd and 3rd in the 200 IM. East had no divers, so the Jackets created distance by sweeping the top three spots, led by Parker Brown’s 176.8 points off the board.

McCormick (1:03.2) and Matt Taray (1:08.2) finished 2nd-3rd in the 100 Butterfly, as did Benj Nault-Maurer (53.3) and Kyle McCormick in the 100 Free. Darren Codner (2nd, 5:55) and Andrew Morley (3rd, 6:15) added points in the 500 Free. C-I’s 200 Free Relay of Cicha, the McCormicks and Codner added another 1st place, followed by Nault-Maurer winning the 100 Backstroke (1:01.8). Cicha and Taray closed out the win with a 2nd and 3rd in the Breaststroke.
