BASKETBALL ROUND-UP: The Braham girls improved their season record to 5-0 after running past host Hinckley-Finlayson 101-32 Dec. 13. The victory was the Bombers’ 35th straight in the Great River Conference, with the team sitting on top at 3-0 this winter.
Back on Dec. 9, the Bombers kept it going with a 69-38 home win over Aitkin. Becca Dahlman had a hot-shooting night (11-from-13 from the field) to lead the team with 35 points. Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow added 9 points, with 8 points each coming from Austyn Eng and Kayla Nickles.
Dahlman, Sorenson-Giffrow and Nickles all grabbed 5 rebounds, and Eng led the defense with 5 of the Bombers’ 19 steals in the win.
C-I Girls Basketball defeats Zephyrs
The Bluejacket girls raised their season mark to 3-2 with a 64-45 non-conference road win at Mahtomedi Dec. 13.
“We got off to a slow start, so we were down 23-11. But the girls countered with a good run to trail just 25-23 at the half,” replayed C-I Coach Jody Ledahl. “We continued to take control throughout the second half. Natalie Larson came through with a big game for us.”
Larson finished with 23 points for the Bluejackets, draining 11-of-13 free throws. She also led the squad with 7 rebounds. Whitney Olson followed with 18 points, and Paige Muehlhauser scored 9 points and added 6 rebounds. Brynn Liljander and Amanda Hanson both scored 5 points in the win, with Hanson adding 5 rebounds.
• On Dec. 10, visiting Andover worked past the Bluejackets 72-56. The section-partner Huskies had six players score 8 points or more in the victory. The Bluejackets were paced by Olson’s 18 points, with Larson (12) and Muehlhauser (10) also scoring in double figures.
The Bluejackets open the Mississippi 8 season at home against Rogers Dec. 15.
C-I Boys drop pair of non-conference games
The Bluejacket boys basketball team had its record dip to 1-3 after dropping two non-conference games this past week. Host Bloomington Kennedy prevailed 63-44 on Dec. 9. Leading the C-I boys were Jordan Schleicher and Tom Selz with 11 points each. Jake Johnson (7 points) and Matt Swanson (6 points) followed in scoring for C-I, with Swanson leading on the boards with 8 rebounds. Jonah Poppen dished 5 assists, and Hunter Vavra led with 3 steals.
• At home Dec. 13, the Bluejackets fell to section-partner Forest Lake 65-50. Swanson paced the team with 18 points, and Selz finished with 16 points.
Win for Warrior Boys
Continuing their non-conference part of the early season, the Cambridge Christian boys basketball team downed host Fourth Baptist 63-32 Dec. 8. Peter Maring led the Warriors with 26 points, followed by Grant Taylor (10 points), Anthony Lecceardone (9 points) and Anders Boyum (6 points).
Braham Boys 81, Aitkin 32
In their other action last week, Braham got balanced scoring from Anthony Bias (19), Tyler Vaughan (15), Shaun Hollencamp (12) and Cam Braund (10) in the Dec. 8 home victory.
