Weekend Sports: Braham boys overcome Orono

Braham Boys Basketball improved to 2-1 on the season by defeating defending Class AAA champ Orono 85-75 at Saturday’s Tip-Off Classic at Minnetonka. Tyler Vaughan scored 28 points to lead the Bombers, with 14 points contributed by Cameron Braund, Anthony Bias and Sam Stigen. Vaughan needs just two three-pointers to reach the state record when the Bombers host Hinckley-Finlayson Dec. 13.

St. Michael-Albertville 42, Cambridge-Isanti Wrestling 28

The Knights, ranked 2nd in Class AAA, rallied to defeat the 7th-ranked Bluejackets in the finals of the Coon Rapids Invite on Saturday. STMA took an early 19-0 lead after the first four weights, but the Bluejackets rolled between the 145-182 matches to pull ahead 28-22, strengthened by pins from Travis Holt, Cody Skog and an injury default in favor of Clayton Jennissen. The Knights then delivered three falls in the final three matches to defeat their Mississippi 8 and Section 7AAA rivals.

Cambridge-Isanti Gymnasts 5th at Apollo Invite

The Bluejackets scored 140.95 points to place 5th at the Dec. 10 St. Cloud Apollo Invite, with Roseville (147.2) and St. Cloud Tech (146.3) taking the top two spots among the 12 competing teams. Senior Emily Stewart was 3rd in the All-Around with 37.2 points after tying for 1st on the Floor (9.65) and taking 2nd on the Vault (9.5) and 3rd on the Bars (9.45).

Braham Girls Basketball 69, Aitkin 38

The Bombers improved to 4-0 with a road win at Aitkin Dec. 9.

Andover 72, Cambridge-Isanti Girls Basketball 56

C-I’s section partner Huskies pulled away in the second half to defeat the host Bluejackets Dec. 10. The Jackets (2-2) were led by 18 points from Whitney Olson, 12 from Natalie Larson and 10 from Paige Muehlhauser.

Bloomington Kennedy 63, Cambridge-Isanti Boys Basketball 44

The Bluejackets dipped to 1-2 on the season after a Dec. 9 road loss to the Eagles. Leading scorers for the C-I boys were Jordan Schleicher (11), Tom Selz (11) and Jake Johnson (7).
