THURSDAY SPORTS: Jacket Boys Hockey beats St. Francis
Cambridge-Isanti boys hockey’s Skye Hunt-Schuft scored two goals when the Bluejackets (1-3) won their first game of the season 5-3 over host St. Francis Dec. 8. Netting solo goals were T.J. Pagel, Colton Miller and Brennan Osen as the Jackets went 3-for-7 on the power play. Jared Knutson made 30 saves in the nets in the victory.
C-I Wrestling defeats Buffalo, Champlin Park
In a home-opener triangular Dec. 8, the Bluejackets defeated Buffalo 65-12 in their first Mississippi 8 match of the season. In the nightcap, the Cambridge-Isanti wrestlers improved to 7-1 on the season with a 43-36 win over Champlin Park in a non-conference dual.
Braham Boys Basketball 81, Aitkin 32
The Bomber boys won big in their Dec. 8 home opener, taking a 43-18 lead by halftime. Scoring was spread nicely between Anthony Bias (19), Tyler Vaughan (15), Shaun Hollencamp (12), Cameron Braund (10), Zach Dahlman (8), Drew Klemz (7) and Sam Stigen (6). The Bombers made 7 three-pointers, with Vaughan and Stigen combining for 5 ’3s.’ The Braham defense forced 25 Gobbler turnovers and finished with 18 steals (Vaughan 7, Hollencamp 5). Vaughan also doubled up with 11 assists, and led the Bombers (1-1) with 8 rebounds.
North Metro 3, CIMPC Girls Hockey 1
The Bluejackets’ three-game win streak was snapped with a loss to the host Stars Dec. 8. North Metro scored one goal in each of the first two periods before CIMPC’s Holly Guerin scored on the power play early in the third. But the Stars got that goal back four minutes later and held the rest of the way despite being outshot 25-17 in the game. The loss evened the Jackets’ record at 5-5 on the season.
