Bluejacket Wrestling defeated Kenyon-Wanamingo 48-18 in the championship bout of Saturday’s Chisago Lakes Invite. The Knights are ranked 11th in Class A.
Travis Swanson got C-I on the board with a late pin at 113, but the Knights rallied to lead 18-6 with two pins and a 3-2 decision by top-ranked Oakley McClain over Tyler Tischer in a marquis match at 132.
Tanner Torgerson (8-2) and Robbie Phillips (6-2) began the Jackets’ comeback at 138 and 145. Travis Holt followed with a pin at 152, then Cody Skog (14-2) and Cole Bakke (13-3) posted majors. The Jackets wrapped up the title with pins by Clayton Jennissen at 182 and Kyle Chromy at 195. Jon Knowlton stuck his sixth straight foe for icing at 285.
The Jackets opened the tourney with six pins and two tech falls in a 55-14 beating of Rosemount. They then handled Mora 44-22 in the semis, led by falls from Tommy Guy at 106, Tischer at 132, Holt at 160, Bakke at 182 and Knowlton at 285.
2-1 at White Bear Invite
The BlueJackets went 2-1 at the Dec. 2 White Bear Lake Quadrangular to kick off the season. Scott West, ranked 3rd in Class AA, topped C-I 44-19 in in the opening match, building a 25-3 lead after 145. Pins by Holt and Knowlton were C-I highlights, along with an 11-2 major from Jennissen.
In Round 2, the Jackets defeated Moorhead 54-15 with Skog earning his 100th career victory by pinning Spud Wychor at the 3:24 mark. More Bluejacket falls were stacked up by Guy, Monty Frederiksen (113), Swanson, Chromy, Dakota Johnson (220) and Knowlton. The Jackets closed the evening with a 45-22 win over 8th-ranked White Bear Lake. Falls by Holt and Skog and an 8-4 decision by Jennissen over 2nd-ranked Beau Bibeau put C-I ahead for good.
