The Cambridge-Isanti boys basketball team prevailed in its Dec. 6 home opener, knocking off Chisago Lakes 74-65 to even its season record at 1-1.
Senior Tom Selz paced the offense by sinking 4 three-pointers to finish with 26 points. Eleven Bluejackets scored against the Wildcats including Nate Cox (10), Jake Johnson (9), Matt Swanson (5), Kyle McDonald (5), Chris Olson (5) and Ryne Gagne (4).
“We shot the ball quite well in the game, making 10 three-pointers,” noted C-I Coach Mike McDonald.
Johnson finished with 8 rebounds to lead the Jackets.
Coon Rapids 72, C-I 53
The C-I boys’ new lineup challenged Coon Rapids in the Dec. 2 season opener, but the Cardinals pulled away for a 72-53 non-conference victory.
The Bluejackets were within 42-40 with 10 minutes to play before the host Cardinals made their move. Cold shooting at the arc (3-for-15) and at the line (8-for-19) hurt the Jackets’ comeback chances.
C-I was led by Matt Swanson (12 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals), Hunter Vavra (10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals), and Jake Johnson (9 points, 11 rebounds). Tom Selz added 10 points, with junior Clinton Treichel scoring 4. Jonah Poppen led with 3 assists at point guard.
