Minnesota author to hold reading for new holiday book
Scout & Morgan Books welcomes Minnesota journalist and author Chuck Frederick on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Frederick will be reading from and signing copies of his new book, “Spirit of the Lights.”
“Spirit of the Lights” tells the story of Marcia Hale who persuaded her husband, Alan that they needed to create a beautiful Christmas light display worthy of competing in the Duluth Holiday Lights contest.
She could not have known that the twinkle strings, plastic penguins and cherry outdoor fire would grow into a major draw for people from around the city, the country and beyond into her small beachfront back yard.
This is the inspirational collection of stories of those people who have come to the lights and experienced healing, grace and community in the walk-through winter wonderland where all are welcome. Marcia’s personal journey unfolds as the annual light display grows in size and meaning for her and those in her life.
Through interviews and the many guest journals gathered by Marcia over the years, Frederick has collected the touching tales of second chances, celebrations, a magical penguin and even some goodbyes that have come to pass amid thousands of twinkling lights. This true story provides inspiration to share the joys of the holiday spirit with others in our communities and beyond.
Frederick has dedicated two decades of his life to telling stories of people as a newspaper reporter and editor of Minnesota newspapers. Frederick and his family live in Duluth.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information call 763-689-2474. Scout & Morgan Books is located at 114 Buchanan St. North in Cambridge.
