Weekend Playoffs: Andover ends C-I Volleyball season; Bomber CC competes at Section 5A meet

The Cambridge Christian Soccer club finished off a great 15-1-1 season by winning the Christian Athletic League championship on Saturday, Oct. 29. The Warriors, who got a bye for being the No. 1 seed, defeated Faith Foreston 5-1 in the semifinals Friday afternoon.

The Warriors then blanked Mt. Lake 4-0 in the CAL finals on goals from Jake Wold, Josh Roble, David Fryc and Peter Maring.

Section 7AAA Volleyball: Andover 3, Cambridge-Isanti 0

In the Section 7AAA quarterfinals Friday night, top-seed Andover advanced with a 25-21, 25-14, 25-20 victory over No. 8 Cambridge-Isanti. Leading the Bluejackets against the Huskies were Julia Walfoort (10 kills), Kylie Baas (24 assists) and Katelyn Torgerson (13 digs). C-I closed the season with a 13-15 overall record.

Andover next faces No. 4 Anoka on Nov. 2; the other semifinals will be No. 2 Duluth East hosting No. 3 Elk River.

• In Braham’s Section 5A East subsections, top seeds Rush City and East Central will square off in the Nov. 2 semifinal match. The Tigers downed Ogilvie 3-1 Friday night, and EC defeated Barnum 3-1 that evening. In the other semifinals it will be Nevis against Onamia.

Braham at Section 5A Cross Country

The Braham girls finished 16th and the boys 20th at the Oct. 27 Section 5A races at Pierz. Leading the Bomber girls were Rachel Eskuri (16:43) and Austyn Eng (18:05). Pacing the Braham boys were Jacob Rajkowski (19:29) and Thomas Warner (20:13).

The St. Cloud Cathedral squads swept the boys and girls 5A titles. Also advancing to Class A State were the Annandale girls and the Mora boys.
